About the Event

The FBI Defense Tactics is an integrated system of certain physical and mental confrontation techniques and procedures directed toward the safety of those employed in the enforcement of the law. With this in mind, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has devised a program believed to be both simple and effective. The ultimate objective of this program is to furnish the officer with the necessary “tools” which he/she can utilize in those situations which threaten his/her physical well-being. The manual for the FBI Defensive Tactics instructor is developed for the teaching and continued training of law enforcement officers in self-protection and arrest procedures.

Course Specifics: This is a 40 hour course instructed by Denver FBI Special Agents who have been certified as Defensive Tactics Instructors by FBI Headquarters and separately certified to instruct local law enforcement through an Instructor Development course. This course is POST approved.

Target Group: The target group consists of local, state and federal law enforcement officials who can utilize the FBI DT principles in the training of their officers, deputies or agents.

Methods of Instruction: The methods of instruction include classroom presentations through video, computer and definition of terms, with practical application of the DT principles. Written tests and physical skills tests must be completed with an 80% score on each test for the attendees to be certified to teach the FBI DT program to their respective departments. Attendees must also demonstrate the ability to instruct a unit block to the class in a proficient manner.

Goals and Objectives: The immediate objectives of this course are: to expose attending law enforcement to the FBI DT principles; to make the attendees proficient in demonstrating the techniques in the precise manner as instructed by the FBI; to have the attendees complete the necessary instruction training so the attendees may properly instruct their respective departments in the FBI DT program; and to ensure that the FBI is certifying qualified, physically fit local instructors who demonstrate and instruct the techniques in a uniform manner. The longer term goals of the course are to make the attendees proficient and effective in the instructing the FBI DT program to their respective departments so that the FBI techniques may be used in arrest control and provide for the safe arrests and defensive actions by local law enforcement.

THIS IS A PHYSICALLY DEMANDING COURSE. PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR OWN ABILITY/LIMITATIONS BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THIS COURSE.
